Contrary to some DNR statements, angler interest is always high when it comes to Skamania. The first year draw of 153 contestants confirms the importance of the Skamania program. Many Steelheaders maintained their positions for the entire 24 hour period and surrendered their comfort to defend the honor of their allegiance.  The DNR creel census crew was on the scene and reported limit catches earlier in the week.  Mark Tonello - Cadillac fisheries biologist, gave up his Saturday, to promote positive PR for the DNR. The good fishing would not extend to tournament day, only eight fish would be measured.
