WELLSTON- Children burn their books, run wild, and freak out on their last day of school.  How do teachers celebrate?
"We just got out of school (Wednesday) and we are ready to hit the water." Said BHS teacher Julia Radatz.  "It's a great team building experience for us teachers."
"It's a great trip and we really appreciate it." said Chris Makenin KalevaNormanDickson
In Wellston, Dan Funk has made it easier for teachers to celebrate.  as the owner Pine Creek Livery, and third grade parent, Funk donates 21 canoes paddles and vests to give the teachers a free canoe trip.
Teachers, support staff, and administrators and their families from Wellston Elementary, Kaleva
education Association President.  "It's also our last chance to be together and enjoy each other. before school starts next year, unless your teaching summer school."
Funk gives his "Appreciation donation"  to the teaches and staff because "I want to show appreciation for people with a thankless job.
Elementary, and Brethren High School rode the canoes from the High Bridge landing site to Rainbow Bend.
"This year they requested an even longer ride then last year." Funk said.  " I guess they didn't anticipate the weather."
This was the second year Funk donated the trip.  However, even with the rain, the spirits of the canoers seemed undiminished.
They are over worked, and underpaid, and usually, all they hear are the complaints from parents."
Funk knows this from experience, he has a third grade student at Wellston Elementary.  His son's teacher, Tami Bonzheim was taking part in the canoe ride.  "It's a great way to get together." she said.
Funk also donates trips to the Boy Scout troops in the area, and the Wellston Area Tourist Association.
